Abstract: |
The model represents a simplified geometry of upper airways starting from the oral cavity and ending with third or fourth bifurcation of the bronchial tree. The main features of the model are: simply defined geometry of transparent walls, easy to disassemble, geometrical resemblance to and compatibility with previously employed realistic models. The model consists of realistic the oral cavity and larynx geometries, the trachea and 17 branches cylindrical shape with 8 bifurcations. The model can be employed for flow and particle transport measurement with the use of various optical methods, as well as deposition studies. In comparison with other simplified models, the present one is of non-symmetrical branching – various angles, diameters and lengths of branches), the branching is three dimensional and all the complexity of entrance cavities that generate laryngeal (glottal) jet were preserved. |
